Whether it’s for hanging on your wall of battle trophies, on your arm at court or for
fighting in rapier or heavy combat, our shields will protect your person and make
you look good doing it. There are three different sizes available: mid size 1ft diameter
(buckler), large size 1 1/2ft diameter (shield), supersize 2ft diameter (targe).
Bucklers are designed to fit on your fore arm while leaving your shield hand free for
holding a dirk, dagger, axe, cudgel or bow, for that underhanded follow up blow.
Shields can be either hands free (hanging on your forearm) or with a handle. Targes are
along the lines of a Scottish or Viking round shield with out the center boss.
These come exclusively with handles and are equipped with a shoulder strap for carrying
it comfortably between battles.
All shields, bucklers and targes are a minimum of ¾ inches thick and are extremely
durable. Edge wrapping is usually heavy leather, but can be copper, rubber tubing or
bare. Arm wraps and handles are equipped with durable buckles and are open
flapped to allow easy attachment over armor to any arm size (straps are custom cut to
your arm size with allowance for armor). In addition each shield comes with a pole strap
at the top that allows you to buckle your shield to any vertical tent pole or hook
for display and storage purposes.
Designs are largely custom, Clan Crests, family heraldry and SCA fighting crests are no
problem. Costs for each is largely a factor of the amount of detail in the design and
varies between $50 for a simple buckler to approximately $200 for the fanciest targe
(try and find a custom targe anywhere else for that price!)
