The chairs you see in the subsequent pages follow an ancient Norse design, handed down
through the generations of Eric’s Scandinavian family history (and numerous Viking raids
throughout the British Isles and the west coast of Normandy). They are an extremely simple
design, which is what made them so prevalent in their use through out the medieval age
and into the renaissance. During these times, metal objects were expensive; they required
significant labor and smithing to procure even the simplest nail. As such, the common man and
woman wanted furniture that was not only simple to make, but also sturdy and inexpensive (that is
they did not include metal in their joining). By slipping the entirely wood
seat through a hole cut in the entirely wood backboard, an easy, portable and quite comfortable chair was created.

Because the chairs come apart they can be easily stowed in a cupboard, under a bed or rowing
bench with ease. Also due to their portability they fit well in a car, and are light enough
that they can be carried to the beach for sun tanning, to picnics, to watch the tourney or
war, fishing or stargazing. They can easily be brought out to provide extra seating for
guests (just as they did in the European cathedrals of the renaissance) or left out as a
conversation piece. If you carry any sort of side weapon, such as a sword, there is no armrest
to impede your sitting. They also can easily support a fully armored fighter in style
between bouts or battles (or two unarmored individuals comfortably in a variety of naughty
ways)(also each chair is tested by the Eric personally, who as a man wearing a kilt, can
guarantee no splinters or rough edges)

To summarize, these chairs have a variety of uses, both in the SCA, Ren Faire worlds and
without. Unlike many items that can only be safely used at these events, and at the office
(such as swords and kilts) these chairs can be used anywhere. Lastly there is a three year
warranty on all chairs on the cost of labor, if for any reason (except extreme abuse,
meteor strike, car damage house fire, or Viking raid) your chair should split or crack (it is wood
after all) within three years, Eric will rebuild, or repair your chair for the cost of the
replacement materials only (usually no more than $12), and labor is free.

One last note. You’re probably asking yourself, well if it’s so simple why don’t I go out
in the garage and make myself one. Well… go ahead. I won’t give you the plans, but you’re
welcome to try. Hopefully you’ll have an understanding wife and neighbors when you’re
making all that noise. Honestly, I try and price these as low as possible, I’m not set out to
make a living off of them, they pay for my hobbies which are wood working and going to events.
